Report:Conscientization programme

Conducted on: 21 November 2024

Name of school: GHSS, Kunnam

Topic: An awareness class on Environmental Consciousness.

On 21 November 2024, at 2. 55 pm we B. Ed student teachers of KUCTE, Kunnam conducted an awareness class on Environmental Consciousness at GHSS, Kunnam as part of Conscientization Programme initiative that should be done by us according to B. Ed curriculum.

Introduction:

The world is facing numerous environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. These issues have severe consequences for human health, economic development, and social justice. Therefore, it is essential to raise environmental consciousness among individuals, especially students, to promote sustainable practices and mitigate environmental problems.

Need and significance:

1. Lack of Environmental Awareness: Many individuals, particularly students, lack awareness about environmental issues, their causes, and consequences.

2. Inadequate Environmental Education: Environmental education is often inadequate or absent in school curricula, leaving students without the necessary knowledge and skills to address environmental challenges.

3. Unsustainable Practices: Students may engage in unsustainable practices, such as littering, wasting water, or using single-use plastics, due to lack of awareness or education.

4. Climate Change and Its Impacts: Climate change has severe consequences, including rising temperatures, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events. Students need to understand the causes and effects of climate change and their role in mitigating it.

Objectives of Conscientization Program:

1. Raise Environmental Awareness: Educate students about environmental issues, their causes, and consequences.

2.Develop useful creativity skills in students by including paper bag making.

Procedure:

Firstly we started the programme by showing an engaging introductory video session to students. Then each of us gave separate classes on various environmental issues, their causes, and consequences by citing real life examples.

.Job-vayanad urul pottal

.Devika- keralathile pralayam (2018)

Lakshmi -waste management

.Aiswarya- pollution

.Jyothi-  landslide

And me about the  haritha keralam  project under government of kerala by showing a video and explained its content like aim of haritha keralam mission, its motto, date on which it has launched, its association with swachh bharat abhiyan, haritha karama sena- duties and responsibilities etc.

After that I demonstrated the students how to make paper bags in order to avoid the use of plastic bags.

Impact of the programme:

. Students very eagerly listened to us and responded to us.

They vowed not to throw waste or cause any harmful acts to the environment in the future

. They were eager to learn how to make paper bags and showed us the bags they made. They promised to use similar bags in the future instead of plastic bags.

Conclusion:

Overall the program went well and the activities where completed and the awareness was properly given. The students listen carefully in our awareness class. They were more interested to learn about how to save environment. The world is facing numerous environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. In such a scenario, this type of environment awareness class was necessary.
